Promote pride in and a positive image of our community

Goal 2.1 - Promote the restoration and general appearance of buildings and property in the City of Huntsville.

    Strategies

  • Strategy 2.11 - President appoints a citizens committee to drive all approaches to the City of Huntsville, along all streets taking notes of properties that project a positive image as well as noting area that need improvement.
  • Strategy 2.12 - Check on resources available for similar programs with State Chamber of Commerce and applicable state agencies.
  • Strategy 2.13 - Committee meets and discusses findings and issues report to Board of Directors with possible recommendations coming from the Board.
  • Strategy 2.14 - Discuss the possible formation of a downtown improvement district with committee to determine how best to organize local business in and around the business district.
  • Strategy 2.15 - Committee to discuss possible neighborhood organization program that would unite geographical neighborhoods into entities with possible names such as "Lakeside", "The Heights", "Polk Addition" and identify possible leaders in those areas.
  • Strategy 2.16 - Meet with those leaders and organize a program of neighborhood pride in those areas with neighborhoods deciding how they can improve their own areas.
  • Strategy 2.17 - Encourage pride in ownership to include landscaping, junk removal, etc. with an awards or acknowledgment program such as most improved neighborhood, Yard of the month, Home of the month, etc.
  • Strategy 2.18 - See that signs and landscaping are maintained on entry ways into town.

Goal 2.2 - Creation of a Madison County/Huntsville Museum which accurately displays the history, dreams, achievements, and visions of the community.

    Strategies

  • Strategy 2.21 - Meet with the officers of the Madison County Historical and Genealogical Society to obtain their support, ideas and involvement.
  • Strategy 2.22 - Develop a preliminary plan on logistics to plan, design, and operate a local museum by visiting other museums and consulting with those curators.
  • Strategy 2.23 - Check with local museums as to their funding and methods of operations.
  • Strategy 2.24 - Evaluate plan to see if operations are feasible so as to be successful.
  • Strategy 2.25 - Form an advisory committee of members of the historical society, Chamber of Commerce, local civic clubs and city/county officials. Bring them up to date and seek advice and recommendations to include tax status, incorporation, etc.
  • Strategy 2.26 - Advisory Committee to begin looking for possible sites for museum.
  • Strategy 2.27 - Meet with owners to establish possible purchase or donation of site if found desirable.
  • Strategy 2.28 - Check with city officials to insure all safety and zoning requirements can be met if possibility of obtaining location seems probable.

Goal 2.3 - Award achievement and promote individual initiative and recognition by expanding the chamber awards program and annual banquet.

    Strategies

  • Strategy 2.31 - President to appoint a "Chamber of Commerce Annual Awards Banquet" chairman and committee soon after taking office.
  • Strategy 2.32 - Committee to meet as soon as possible to set the date and place of the banquet and review previous programs.
  • Strategy 2.33 - Committee with approval from Board of Directors to review and approve a system of awards to include requirements to receive such awards, such as Citizen of the year, volunteer of the year, organization of the year, neighbor hood of the year, student of the year, etc.
  • Strategy 2.34 - Notify all businesses, organizations, schools, etc. of the awards programs, their requirements and encourage and/or obtain commitment for participation.
  • Strategy 2.35 - Committee to keep aware of special achievements made by local citizens and/or students that are worthy of recognition or award.
  • Strategy 2.36 - Committee to devise an organized program with speaker and/or entertainment in advance.
  • Strategy 2.37 - Committee to devise program for promoting and selling tickets to the Chamber of Commerce Annual Awards Banquet as a "must attend event".

Goal 2.4 - Create a program within the chamber known as "Operation Pride" which involves all community organizations.

    Strategies

  • Strategy 2.41 - President to appoint an "Operation Pride" chairman and committee soon after taking office. Committee should contain a representative from each civic, fraternal, or other organization in the community.
  • Strategy 2.42 - Committee to meet with the Chamber President to understand their purpose and then design a program which will help meet Objective 2 and any goals under Objective 2.
  • Strategy 2.43 - Committee will devise system to keep track of notable achievements, awards, and other commendations received by local citizens to assist Banquet committee and see that proper publicity is obtained.
  • Strategy 2.44 - Committee will encourage organizations to enter and build a float or other entry in the Chamber Annual Christmas Parade.
  • Strategy 2.45 - Plan and execute possible fund raisers to help raise funds for award plaques, trophies, etc.
  • Strategy 2.46 - Plan, design, and build small areas in town, such as fountains, memorials, flower beds, etc. whose purpose is to cause a feeling of pride.
  • Strategy 2.47 - Encourage the various organizations to unite and work together on larger projects, such as a clean up day, trash removal from property, etc.
